Bunuatan Weaving Center: Preserving Filipino’s hard work and culture

by - Monday, June 09, 2014

In line with City Tour line-up, our next destination is the Binuatan Weaving Center. This is the place of hard work and perseverance of most of the palaweños. Weaving is one of the main sources of their livelihood.

This is the place where the raw materials are being processed to become marketable products like bag, wallet, basket, blinds, decorative stuffs and many more.

Upon entering this door, you can immediately notice one of the Filipino traits we can be proud of. Leaving our foot wears outside the door speaks of discipline and respect for me. Discipline, obviously, to maintain a clean indoor and work area. Respect, because whenever we do home visit, we usually remove our footwear to give respect to the home owner we are visiting.

Here is the manual instrument the palaweño’s are using to do their weaving. This looks simple but it actually requires long patience, perseverance and hard work in order for you to have a great output.

I also tried to do the weaving as they are very much willing to teach me how.

Can you see their hard work? Very inspiring!
