Mt. Pinatubo

Mt. Pinatubo caused a disaster on June 15, 1991. The world was surprised by the second largest terrestrial eruption of 20th century after Novarupta eruption in Alaska on 1912. According to U.S. Geological Survey Fact Sheet 113-97, “The eruption produced high-speed avalanches of hot ash and gas, giant mud flows, and a cloud of volcanic ash hundreds of miles across". Philippines encountered ash and sustained about $100 million in damage, devastated many livelihood and lives among neighboring town and those who are living on it.

Why is it called as a Beautiful Disaster?


Obviously, due to the stunning majestic scenery of the crater developed by event and span of time, Mt. Pinatubo evolved from a devastated state to a splendid “beautiful disaster”. Aside from its beauty, it became a channel of livelihood for many people for its bloomed tourism.

How to Get to Mount Pinatubo ?


It is approximately 2 and half to 3 hours travel from Manila to Capas Tarlac 
Take a bus from Manila to Capas, Tarlac
         Check Bus Stations from Metro Manila (Manila/Pasay/Cubao) to Capas Tarlac
-       Manila (Philippine Rabbit Avenida)
-       Cubao
-       Pasay

Drop off at Mcdonalds Capas Junction
Ride Tricycle from Junction to Patling.
Ride a Tricycle from Patling to Sta Juliana Tourism
Register in Sta. Juliana Tourism
Rent a 4x4 ride : 4 to 5 person per 4x4 – Rental is 3,500
4x4 ride to start of trekking point ( 1 HOUR)
8 Trekking to the Crater Lake is 1 to 1.5 Hours

You can opt to do DIY arrangement going to Mt. Pinatubo or find a good Travel Agency that arranges everything for this experience.

How much will it cost you to get to Mt. Pinatubo?


There are a lot of travel agency or group that caters trek to Mt. Pinatubo. Getting a service provider that will organize your trek will take care of everything from transportation to guiding you on this exciting activity!
Package cost ranges from P 2,000 to P 3,000 depending of the number of people availing it in a group.

What to bring and wear on your trek to Mt. Pinatubo?

  •  Water to drink
  •  Identification Card
  •  Sunglasses
  •  Hat
  •  Sun block
  •  Snacks
  •  Snacks
  •  Towel
  •  Extra Clothes
  •  small backpack ( Preferably water resistant)
  •  small Back (Light weight)


Note: Try do bring minimalist items and only necessary so it will be convenient for you to walk

To wear:
  • Wear light and breathable cloths
  • Comfy trekking shoes or sandals

Do’s and Dont’s on Trekking Mt. Pinatubo


  •  Do not swim on crater lake
  •  Do not litter
  •  Do not destroy trees or anything
  •  Don’t get dehydrated
  •  Do follow the guidelines all the time
  •  Do follow the tour guide on his way
  •  Do warm up before trekking
  •  Do drink a lot of water
  • 5 Do check weather forecast before trekking
